The Obersalzberg was, between 1933 and 1945, the secondary seat of the Nazi regime. Hitler’s Berghof stood a few hundred metres above the current hotel, on a slope that also held the residences of Bormann, Göring, and Speer, together with an SS barracks and a bunker system of some four to six kilometres. The Berghof was bombed on 25 April 1945 and demolished in 1952. The hotel, opened in 2005, stands on the former Göringhügl. The view has not changed.
